Meet The Makers Mini Interview: Love Me Some

Love Me Some Mini Interview

Charmaine Ng developed her Love Me Some line of keto, plant-based, non-GMO crackers using her Masters of Food Science from the University of British Columbia, when her growing family drove home how important it is to balance convenience with real nutrition. Her made-in-Vancouver products are based on using the benefits of super seeds to help support our immune systems and natural cycles, and are available in Pumpkin Seeds, Flax Seeds and Sea Salt; Pumpkin Seeds, Flax Seeds and Turmeric; Sunflower Seeds, Sesame Seeds and Cayenne; and Sunflower Seeds, Sesame Seeds, and Sea Salt. These crackers are a delicious snack food with a fantastic nutritional profile designed to fuel humans of all ages—in as much time as it takes to dip your hand into a box! That said, they're also amazing with all kinds of toppings and spreads, and make a beautiful addition to snack and appetizer boards. We’re really grateful to Charmaine for sharing some insight into how her small business developed!

As a Food Scientist, I am always mindful of what’s in my food. As my kids grew older, I find that the need for convenient, pre-packaged snacks was very real. Unfortunately, there are not many healthy snacks on the market that checked all my boxes, and I realized that many of us are compromising nutritional quality for convenience. Packaged foods often consist of sugars and chemicals, and it makes it more difficult to ‘snack well’ when there are not too many good choices on the market! As a result, my partner and I set on a mission to change this through the Love Me Some brand which encompasses products that are delicious, healthy, and convenient. Our mission is to enable customers to take care of themselves through happy snacking! Harnessing the power of seeds, Love Me Some crackers help strengthen the body’s natural cycles and immune system, which makes a perfect snack for the whole family.

Getting from an idea to a small business is a lot of work! When did it first sink in for you that ‘this is really happening’?

When we put together our first case of products back in February 2021. I’ve worked in the food industry all my life and seeing something that is truly mine is unbelievable!

What motivates you on a day-to-day basis?

My love for good food and my passion for sharing them with others! I enjoy eating and how food connects people, so that’s why I choose to study Food and Nutritional Sciences at UBC. It is so relatable to our day-to-day and I love how it resembles love and sharing amongst all cultures. Ensuring that customers have access to good, nutritious food is what keeps me going.

Out of all your products, which is your personal favourite and why?

The Love Me Some Sunflower, Sesame & Cayenne crackers are my personal favourite, and also the first recipe created for this line! It’s definitely my mid-day go-to snack. The mild spiciness makes them so unique, flavourful and refreshing for my taste buds. If you can accept a little bit of spiciness, you will love it!

What’s your favourite thing about the town or city you live in?

I love Vancouver and how it’s a melting pot with different cultures and people. I also love the delicious food and the accessibility to different cuisines of course!

What are your personal top three tips for feeling awesome?

1) Find time for people you love – I enjoy spending time cuddling with my kids before bedtime and learning about their day. But don’t forget to love yourself too – find time to do things you enjoy and recharge.

2) Eat well- I’m a believer in ‘YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT’.

3) Find your balance – Finding the right balance could be difficult, but it is definitely possible. Whether is it your diet, lifestyle, relationship, work, play, exercise, hormones, etc… I believe finding the right balance is the key to a happy life!
