TRIBE ACV Mini Interview

One of the many things we love so much about our community of small local makers, is how their products and their businesses are so truly personal for them. Their motivation for creating something new and wonderful is always clearly driven by a real desire to improve the health and wellness of their family, friends, and community, and to create a product that the people around them will truly love. April and Rhoda of TRIBE ACV definitely epitomize this! The ‘ACV’ of course stands for ‘Apple Cider Vinegar’, and their amazing real fruit enhanced Sparkling Beverages and Concentrates offer all the well-known, wonderful benefits of apple cider vinegar… with an equally wonderful flavour. Read on to learn how April’s son inspired them to start TRIBE ACV, and about how it grew from a market stall to a full-time business.

Share your story with us in a 150 words or less.

It all started with a couple of friends chatting about health and wellness over coffee. April had observed the impact food had on her son Noah's behaviour, who lives with autism. So she started to dig deep into holistic nutrition. She began applying her newfound knowledge to her everyday life and was so inspired by the amazing results she began to share this (with incredible enthusiasm) info with her long time friend Rhoda.

The two began to explore simple and natural health remedies. Unpasteurized apple cider vinegar became one of their daily regimen. A regime that they did NOT look forward to due to the unpleasant flavour. They loved the benefits... but disliked the flavour. At that point, the pair set out to find a way to make Apple Cider Vinegar more palatable.

Getting from an idea to a small business is a lot of work! When did it first sink in for you that ‘this is really happening’?

It all kicked in when we began to see repeat customers at the White Rock Farmers market back in 2017.  It felt like “hey, maybe we are onto something!”  From that point, a local coffee shop began to carry our products and they sold there as well.  It really kicked in when we found ourselves so busy with the business that we had to pack in our original day jobs.  Then things really got real!

Out of all your products, which is your personal favourite and why?

April: It's so hard to pick my favourite ....but i would have to say the Turmeric Ginger Peach ACV Concentrate....such a wake-me-up shot of awesomeness!!

Rhoda: Tropical Blend Tribe ACV...without a doubt!  It is my fave. I am also “all over” our ACV Cherry Concentrate!

What motivates you on a day-to-day basis?

April: I know it sounds cliche, but my kids are my motivation. It's a lot of hard work, but to show them that you can do anything that you set your mind to, that’s a huge deal for me.

Rhoda: I believe it’s a combination of a strong belief in our products and their benefits blended with the excitement and freedom of choosing how we present that.  And to really supercharge all of this motivation - I think about the fact that I am the biggest influence to my two teen girls and just like Apri’s motivation, I want them to know that they are in charge of their own destinies!

What’s your favourite thing about the town or city you live in?

April: I live in Ocean Park, Surrey and the fact that we can walk to the beach is amazing !!!

Rhoda: I live in Clayton, Surrey and I love that it is a five minute walk to a grocery store or restaurant  and a 10 minute walk to a beautiful  park or nature!

Describe your ideal Sunday morning, including your breakfast.

April: Pancakes, always. My son gets up early and mixes up a big batch for everyone. Then it would be some good coffee, reading a book on the back patio, and then a family walk :)

Rhoda: I love getting up nice and early and enjoying a light breakfast (oatmeal, fruit/seeds and yogurt is my fave!) and heading out for a walk with the dog. Rain or shine.  Then it’s snuggled  in with a good book and a cup of coffee!  Perfect.

What are your personal top three tips for feeling awesome?

April: I would have to say eating well, social connections and being outdoors as often as possible

Rhoda:

- Do not take yourself too seriously; Have fun with life and laugh...a lot!
- Self Care (meditation, sleep and nurturing our bodies with healthy food)
- Getting outside to exercise.
