Earth Day Every Day

The first Earth Day happened on April 22, 1970 when 20 million people in the United States took to the streets to raise awareness about the many manmade atrocities - pollution, ecosystem destruction, wildlife extinction - plaguing the earth. Since then, Earth Day has grown to include over 180 countries and hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

Everyone can make a difference this Earth Day! Get involved in your community by participating in a local event or take a more personal approach and commit to changing one thing in your life that will make a difference for the rest of the year. You could start a herb garden on your balcony or windowsill, commit to taking one less car trip per week, or even make a stronger commitment to the 6 Rs - reduce, refuse, reuse, regift, repurpose and recycle. Another great way to make a difference every day is to choose local, organically-grown vegetables and fruit, non-GMO products and ethically sourced meat, poultry and fish. And remember, even making a small change can make a difference to our earth.

Pomme strives to be gentle on the earth every day too. From the ground up, Pomme stores are built with Mother Nature in mind. Our display units, shelving and refrigeration equipment are all previously used and if we have to replace something, we look for refurbished equipment first, only buying new when necessary. We have found that a little TLC goes a long way to lengthen the life of everything from shelves to refrigerators. We also use LED lighting and eco-friendly and recycled paint throughout our stores.

Sustainability and supporting the environment are part of Pomme’s core values. We proudly support local farmers and producers; our closest farmer is only a hop, skip and a jump from our Port Coquitlam store. We carry 100% organic produce, serve all natural and/or organic foodstuffs in our deli, offer natural and cruelty-free cosmetics and have multitudes of products to support a healthy body and home without compromising the planet.

At Pomme, we realize that not only can we make a difference in our community on Earth Day, but we can make a difference every day and we know you can too!
