Lentil Burgers

The perfect DIY summer veggie burger! 10 minutes to prep, 5 minutes to cook, and half an hour of fridge chilling time in between to relax and enjoy a cool beverage! Also, they’re made with just a few simple, healthy ingredients and they taste delicious.

Makes 4 patties
Prep Time: 10 min + 20-30 min chill
Cook Time: 5 min
Total: 45 min

Ingredients

1 can (540mL) organic lentils, rinsed and drained*
2/3 cup rolled oats
¼ cup each onion and celery, chopped
1 tsp each Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder
¼ tsp each salt & pepper
Vegetable oil (for the pan)
Water (to moisten)

*if using dry lentils, use 1 cup dry lentils, cooked, to make up an approximate equivalent amount.

Directions

Mash lentils in a large bowl. Stir in oats, onion, celery and water (add water a few drops at a time), Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Mix well. Shape lentil mixture into 4 patties, chill in the fridge for 20-30 minutes. Turn on stove to medium-high heat. Put a little oil in a large fry pan. Fry patties until golden brown on both sides. Serve in your favourite bun, or wrapped in lettuce “buns”, with your favourite toppings.
